Lucy (formerly Clover) is an 10 year old Clydesdale mare who came to Harmony Reins in 2015 via some friends of ours in .
Picked up by friend of a friend of Harmony Reins, Lucy had been through the market and spent a lovely few years being a well loved horse that was ridden. She was moved into a paddock with some new horses where sadly they beat her up pretty good! Poor Lucy sustained a significant injury to her hock that would not heal meaning her riding days were over and done with.
Lucy then moved to another friend of Harmony Rein’s to see if she could breed. After two years of unsuccessful trying, our friend decided that she needed to have a new home.
As a 17hh horse that cannot be ridden or bred from, Harmony Reins felt Lucy was at risk of being taken advantage of by unscrupulous dealers trying to make a quick buck. She had been well looked after for a long time and we wanted to ensure that this continued.
Lucy arrived on a transport truck and, unfortunately, on the journey to us, had a slip and fell on her face. We called the vet out immediately as Lucy’s face was droopy and looked like she was suffering from Bells Palsy! Our vet said if it didn’t clear up in a few days it may be permanent. Lucy had no trouble eating and was otherwise normal. Over the next year, the injury has healed and Lucy is now back to normal.
Oh Lucy is a funny character! She is very vocal and has a habit of informing all the horses when the Harmony Reins team are out and about on the property. Attempts to sneak past her fail every time! She’s on to us. We see her as a bit of a sticky beak and a nosey Nelly and imagine her keeping all the horses up to date with the latest property gossip.
Lucy loves to scratch herself and we love watching her move into what looks like a variety of yoga positions. She keeps us giggling with her stretching and manoeuvring into the perfect scratch position. We love Lucy! So much so that she made it on to the front cover of our 2017 calendar!
